Excerpt from Manuscript – Dear Paxton

Ms Mandi Photo 1

He noticed her looking at his arms. “Not a pretty site is it? I have been an addict for more than fifteen years now. This place…” He said, looking around the room, “is more like home to me. I come in and out of here all the time.” Lisa felt sorry for him.

He seemed like a very nice man and very intelligent. She wondered why he would mess up his life. He had a real problem, not her.

“I hate this place! There are so many crazy people in here. I don’t belong here!” She sobbed.

“Then why did you do it?” He looked seriously worried, pointing to her two bandaged wrists.

Excerpt from Manuscript – Dear Paxton

Ms Mandi Photo 1

“His family lives here in town, but his mom sent him away to a boy’s home several years ago because he was always in trouble and disrespectful to authority. He must be home for the summer. His mom and sisters live in a run down trailer on the Indian Reservation and they are dirt poor. Your mom would kill you if she ever found you hanging around with the likes of his kind. Trust me Lisa, I grew up in this town and people know everyone’s business and if anyone sees the two of you together, it will get back to your mom.

“That’s stupid, Laurel. He can’t be that bad.” Lisa smiled.

“He is. He has been on probation for most of his life, for stealing, drinking, and drugs and he is the ward of state.” Lisa felt disappointed.

Cole was so cute, but Laurel was right.

Lisa had grown up with everything she needed. Her family hadn’t been rich, but they were well to do.

When a House is More than just a House…

23 Friday Aug 2013

We have all wondered how much more our economy and as people can take.  The mortgage crash of 2006 has severely affected our country and other countries.  So many families have lost and are still losing their homes.  It may just be a home to some.  It may just be hard times, some may say.  However, true these statements are, the fact of it is that a house holds a lot more than merely a roof over our heads.

A house is our home.  A home is a place where we raise our children.  A home is a place where we keep our memories.  A home is a place where we grow as a family.  A home is a place to feel safe in.  A home is a place where we gain our future.  A house is a lot more than just a dwelling.  Our home is our house.

If you are losing your home, do not give up.  Write letters to your lending company.  I do not mean one letter, but letter after letter after letter, until you are heard.  Study your mortgage documents so you understand what the legalities of your documents mean.  What kind of mortgage do you have?  Was income verified and documented?  Do you have a fixed interest rate or a variable interest rate?  Is your mortgage owned by one investor or several investors?  Find any discrepancies you can in your documents.  The Government is working to create new programs for homes in distress and the longer you can hold on to your home, means the better chances are for you to save your home from foreclosure.  Fight back and do not give up.

Someday you will cry for me,

like I cried for you.

Someday you will miss me,

like I missed you.

Someday you will need me,

like I needed you.

Someday you will love me,

but I won’t love you.

Excerpt from Manuscript – Julian’s Voice: A Ruby in the Rough:

Jewels froze.  She couldn’t’ hear much more than the roar of the fire or was it the house?  The house seemed to be angry.  It was almost as if it had a mind of its own and was screaming out to her.

Excerpt from Manuscript – Dear Paxton

Ms Mandi Photo 1

She was so excited to see his precious face that she could hardly stand to sit in the truck for another moment.  Quickly, she rolled down her window to get some fresh air when she saw him standing outside waiting.  He was standing next to a white wooded garage, kicking gravel, while biting down on his lower lip.  He looked preoccupied and incredibly sexy, standing there, wearing a heavy army jacket smoking a cigarette.  His hair was quite a bit longer than the last time she had seen him, but he looked the same, only better.  His face was relaxed and unshaven.  He looked so innocent and vulnerable, but she knew him better than that.  Her feelings where mixed.  He had loved her so much, but had hurt her so deeply at the same time.  They had only known each other for two years, but she had experienced so much pain with this man.  Her heart was still mending, but now that she saw him, all the love she had pushed aside came rushing back with full force.

Tom had barely turned into the gravel driveway before Lisa was out of the truck flying into Cole’s arms.  Oh, the strength in those arms was incredible.  All the memories came rushing back.  Their lips met, melting her heart.  He kissed her with full force.

The small kitchen was bare with a small oval table and vinyl, metal chairs. A few dishes were in the sink from the night before and the fridge looked as if bachelors lived there. His mother, Billy Jean, had a passion for baking homemade sourdough bread and spaghetti. There was plenty of this in the fridge and on the counter. The kitchen smelled of yeast and coffee.

Lisa helped herself to a cup, while she sat and waited for Cole to get out of the shower. The coffee was strong, but good and hit the spot, mildly subsiding her pounding head.

Excerpt from Manuscript – Dear Paxton:

Ms Mandi Photo 1

“I can’t believe it…Where did I go wrong? You both were such perfect little girls when you were young…Now look at you?” Lisa couldn’t stand it anymore.

She hated it when her mother started putting her down. It wasn’t her fault their mother had decided, on her own, to move to this stupid town. Lisa had never wanted to move in the first place. She had wanted to stay and play tennis in Iowa with her aunt. She had been forced to move to this stupid town, but she was happy now and so relieved that she had met Cole.

There was no way she was going to be stuck in the house for another minute. She had to get out. “Shut up Mom! You are so mean!”

“I hate you girls, both of you! I wish you were little again!” Her mother’s face contorted into a ball of hatred.
