Ask Ms Mandi is more than that…
I am a freelance writer and photographer. If you are visiting this website, you can see that I love to write blogs and post photographs from my travels to exciting places. I write and photograph about life as it really is. I don’t sugar coat it, I say it as it is. Life isn’t PERFECT so I am not going to pretend it is.
However, my life has drastically changed since I first started this site back in 2010. On November 26, 2016, my daughter killed herself; she was only 14 years old. She had been suffering from depression for over three years…which I had known so very little. I later learned, after her death and through her journals, that this had been an ongoing battle.
To say I am deeply sadden is an understatement. There are days when I too can’t imagine going on, but something inside me keeps pushing me…pushing me to write…to speak for her, Jewels. She had always been my angel and now she is watching over me, making sure I carry on her purpose.
What is her purpose? To help others suffering with depression, especially teen depression. Depression is real. It is not a feeling that will go away after a day or two…it is a life long illness…sadly to say. But there is hope.
It is so important to surround yourself with people who care about you and talk about what you are feeling. Don’t think that you are the only one in this world feeling this way…there are so many other people just like you.
And if you are on the other side, the parent…listen to your child! Don’t underestimate your intuition that something is wrong. Don’t put it off as, “they’re just being a teenager.” There are warning signs and you must see them.
Since Jewels death, I have found so many other teens, especially her friends, that are suffering from depression. It scares me, but I am not afraid to speak out about it. I am here for them and through this site, I am here for you too.
I will not make it pretty, it is not! Teen suicide is real and if you think it won’t happen to you or your child…that is what I use to think and now my baby girl is dead.
We must reach out to those that need us… we must stop teen depression and teen suicide. If you need to talk, either as a teen or as a parent, I am here for you…I will listen and I will not judge.
