A Memoir: Becoming Forty

How hard is it for women in their 40’s?  Would one say that it is harder for an aging man or an aging woman?  Being a woman, myself, I can not speak for a man, but turning 40 is probably one of the hardest years of all.  In my opinion, while you are in your 20’s, you are still going to school and learning about yourself.  During the 30’s, you are starting to or have settled down with a husband, buying your first house, and possibly having your first child.  During the 40’s,  you are already established, but questioning your mortality.

This is when mortality became an issue for me, since there are fewer years left during our lifetime than already lived.  Everything becomes more important; such as, your marriage, your career, and your hobbies.  If you are not happy at this point and time in your life, then now is when it is time to change it.

Write your bucket list and start enjoying your life.  We as women in our 40’s are still beautiful, it just may take a little more effort and work.  We need to re-assess our diets and our exercise regime.  A diet that worked a decade ago, my not have the same effects in our 40’s.  Women of 40 are still beautiful.  Who knew that we may be even more beautiful than we were in our 30’s and 20’s.  We are now confident in our skin, taking better care of ourselves and living life to our fullest.

Cleaning the Floor

I probably sweep my kitchen floor more than any other chore in my home.  What a pain.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have some floor device that cleaned your kitchen floor for you.  You could turn on a switch, like a light switch and all the dirt, dust, and debris vanished in thin air.  A vacuum in the walls or baseboard that sucked all the dirt away, sounds plausible to me.  They have a vacuum in the walls for our carpet, why not an automatic system to clean our kitchen floors?

Memoir: A Riverside County Housewife Continues

The day of a Riverside County Housewife:

Good Morning

Alarm clock goes off at 6am.  Drag myself into the kitchen for a cup of coffee with cream and sugar.  Get into the shower.  Make breakfast for my girls and take them to school.  Turn on computer and write.  Write.  Write. Get a Red Bull.  Write.  Write.  Pick up girls from school.  Help them with homework.  Write.  Make dinner.  Work out. Kiss everyone goodnight.  Read the bible.  Get into bed.

Goodnight.

Getting Started

The hardest part is to “just” get started.  We all have heard of the word,  procrastination, but then there is a time to put that aside and “just” get going.

Every writer knows the term, “writer’s block”.  Every day life can stifle any creativity a writer may be trying to find.  This is when it is time to take a step back, take in a deep breath, and open your mind.  Let you mind wonder where ever it wants to go…. it may amaze you what you may discover.

A good writer is inspired by an open mind…. and this means that you don’t control what your thoughts may be, just let them flow and with in the process, your creative mind will be free to inspire you into writing something great.

Wanting to Be a Writer

Tags

I remember growing up, as a little girl, and my mom telling me that I could be anything I wanted to be when I grew up.  This sent a sense of confidence throughout my heart, knowing that I could be anything I wanted to be.  I decided then, that I wanted to be a writer.

I learned later, that my mom’s words were not completely accurate.  I could go to college to learn to write, but could I really be a published writer?

To become a published writer takes more than an education, more than talent, and more than ambition.  It takes the right agent to believe in your work and to actually read it.  It can be frustrating to send out queries to hundreds of agents, without a single interest in reading your manuscript.

Maybe my mom should have said that I can be anything I wanted to be when I grew up, but it wasn’t guaranteed that hard work would equal success.

A Second Chance

Do you believe in second chances or third or even fourth chances?  Have you completely given up on someone you loved?  Stopped loving them completely?  When is it time to walk away and when is it time to walk back?

A wise person once told me that if you have any percentage of love left in your heart for another and decide to split up, that 1% of doubt will haunt you, making you regret your decision to walk away.  It is true.  True love is always able to forgive and love again.

Love is like a wilted flower.  You forget to water the flower and it will wilt and die.  You think it is dead, but decide to water it…… just in case.  The next day you look at the flower and it is open, alive, and beautiful once again.  This is true for our hearts as well.  Love needs to be nurtured, it may seem like it is dead, but with a little attention you will find that it is still alive and just as vibrant.

Don’t give up on true love<3

While St. Patrick’s Day is upon Us…

Tags

While St. Patrick’s is upon us….. you don’t need to be Irish in order to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  Any holiday is a good excuse to get into the festivities.

Make a hot corned beef and cabbage dinner for your family.  Decorate your home with shamrocks and clovers.  Don’t forget to dress in green or you may get pinched.  Put some green food dye into your favorite beverage, cocktail, or beer.  We always pick up a fresh and yummy shamrock shake from McDonald’s.

Anything you do with make the day fun and exciting, not only will you feel the spirit, but your children will have a blast celebrating with you as a family.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Ghosts Are Better Left In The Closet

Tags

There comes a time when it is better to leave our ghosts in the closet.  Everyone of us has a few tales to tell regarding our “ghosts”.  But when is it time to tell and when is it time not to tell?  There are people in our lives that we trust with our utmost secrets, but do they really want to hear the real dirt in our lives?

It is a painful realization when you are feeling low, deciding to call up a really close friend to chat for a bit, getting the poison out of your system with a good ear to cry on and they flat-out tell you they do not want to hear it.  That stings.  At first, we get defensive and our feelings are hurt, but after we sit back and think about it, can we really blame them?

There is a time to talk and a time to listen.  Our closest friends know us best and know that we can do better.  They don’t shut us out because they truly don’t care, they shut us out to wake us up.  We all fall into self-pity some time in our lives, but there comes a time when enough is enough.  If we don’t like the paths that we are heading down, then it is time to change that path.

Have a good cry, get up, brush your self off, and go the other way.  This is harder to do than said, but we are stronger than we think we are and sometimes all it  takes is a good friend to wake us up by telling us to shut up.  Open the door and walk through it, but don’t forget to close the closet door behind you, leaving the ghosts inside.

How to Start up a Start-Up Business

Tags

, ,

So many times businesses go wrong by not making a business plan.  A business plan is one of the key factors to making a business successful.  One reason a business plan is important is that it allows you to feasibly see where your business is starting and where it will be going.  A second reason is that it allows you to gather your ideas on how much capital you will have to invest into your business.  A third reason is that it allows you to see if you will be using investors to fund your business, if you don’t have enough capital to bring into the business.

Please do not cash out any retirement funds or 401K’s.  Business is a risk and you do not want to risk your retirement on such a risky endeavor.  Your retirement is meant for you to have when your elderly and a business is meant for you to build prior to your elderly years, don’t risk losing your retirement that is already invested money into another investment that involves a high risk.

A business plan is something that will be used as a beginning platform and will be used to build from as the business grows.  It will be used to add an annual budget and for projection reporting.  It is used to establish bank loans, a line of credit, government loans and entice investors.  Without a business plan, most banks will not lend you money to start-up your business.  There are several loans out there for start-up companies, funded by the government, so be prepared to show your business plan.

Tax Time is upon Us

February is the beginning of tax preparation.  Don’t let it stress you out.  Staying organized is the key to a less stressful tax season.

Keep folders titled accordingly throughout the year and throw all your relevant receipts into the appropriate folder.  Then when it comes time to see your tax preparer or CPA, you have all your tax documents in an organized fashion.  Not only will your tax preparer or CPA appreciate it, you will appreciate the time saved and the added deductions found, due to your organization.
