I need a road trip…

Shell Beach is a small, quaint beach town a few miles north of Pismo Beach. The people are friendly and life is slow and savored. This beach city also has wonderful restaurants. One of my favorites is called, Mo’s Authentic Hickory Barbecue on the pier in Pismo Beach. They make the most delicious and best homemade potato chips and BBQ pork sandwiches.

I always thought I was a city girl, but I’m really a water girl. Take me to any body of water and I am happy. I guess that is why I am a Pisces.

Happily Ever After…

Happily ever after…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

I could still be married…

I could be laying next to my husband of twenty-nine years….I could not be alone.

I had the perfect life, planned out since I was six years old. After all, isn’t that what society teaches little girls…when you grow up, you will fall in love with your Prince Charming, just like Cinderella, get married, and live happily ever after in your big house, two kids, a dog, two cars, and the white picket fence.

As funny as it sounds, I had that life.

But the part they forgot to tell us, us little girls…is the part that what you see on the outside, isn’t always what is going on in the inside. Prince Charming is inattentive, neglectful, and flat-out mean. He hurts you in more ways than you would like to admit to anyone…including your self.

“But I love him!” You say. “And he loves me…doesn’t he?”

Then slowly, day by day, your fairy tale turns into a nightmare. He takes everything you have to give, leaving behind, only an empty shell. He took the best of you.

Like I said, I could be married, like my girlfriends who have been married just as long as I. Subsequently, I am the one who made the decision to get out…to live again. That is probably why it was such a hard decision because it was my decision…I didn’t want it to end, but I couldn’t live like that either….not anymore.

Venice Beach, California

Venice Beach, CA…

Venice Beach Canals 2.2015

This is one of my favorite places in California. Anyone visiting California must go and visit the canals in Venice Beach. A more touristy spot is along the boardwalk…this is where you will see street performers and such. Plus there are so many quaint stores to shop in. You can find anything from crystals, clothes, to homemade wind-chimes, made out of beach wood drift.

But the canals are a special treat. They are nestled in between homes, off Ocean Ave. A picture doesn’t do it justice….it’s a magical place one must see on their own.

Missing you…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Chasing balls, swimming in the lake, or a simple snuggle on the couch…there is nothing more pure than a pet’s love.

As with any living creature, we find that our time is precious and limited on this earth.

Grey hair and slowing down start its descend.

Time will quickly pass and before we know it, it will be time to say goodbye.

But don’t be sad my love…I will see you again…in a better place than this.

Kindness Goes a lot Further than Anger

Kindness goes a lot further than anger…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

I am healing. My soul was suffocated with denial. At one time my heart was filled with anger. The anger turned to sadness. Finally I started the process of acceptance. I now feel the final transition of the healing process – forgiveness.

When I was working in cosmetics, many years ago, I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful mentor and teacher. As a beauty adviser, we were invited to the Four Seasons’ Hotel in Newport Beach for a day of training and a fabulous luncheon.

I’ll call her, Miss Lucy and she was our teacher for the day. She was a licensed Esthetician. She was very posed and glamorous. I will never forget what she taught us.

She told us that we would meet mean people in this world and at the counter, very mean people. What is human nature when we feel attacked? Our first instinct is to strike back. However, Miss Lucy told us never to do this.

Her quote: “Mean and angry people are wounded people. The mean are the ones we need to be extra nice too for they are the most wounded.”

I did encounter several mean people at the cosmetic counter, as well as during my lifetime. I now smile at them and make sure to be especially nice. They may not get anything out of my kindness, but my heart feels light and full.

The lesson is that you will feel happier when you spread your kindness around and not your anger. Forgiveness and healing go along way and although you may not know it, you possibly made a difference in their day as well.

Signs Are All Around Us

Signs are all around us…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Have you ever heard of the saying, “There are signs all around us?” Of course we have, but how much merit to do we really put towards this saying…

Today started out like any other day, but it started to go down hill quickly by mid-morning. Lately I’ve been at a cross-road in my life. Both romantically and financially. My career as a writer is at a stand-still, but I’m keeping my head up; starting up a new book. This is always a journey…the ideas for the new story are in your head, but putting it down on paper, leads to somewhat of a challenge.

Needless to say, I was starting to doubt myself….I decided to get up and get some fresh air, when I saw something glistening on the floor in my office. I bent down to see what it was and picked it up. It was a pin. It read, “Make it happen.” Make it happen, I thought. How perfect!

I don’t know how this pin got there, but I took it as a sign. Don’t get frustrated with your current situation and give up, but make it happen!

Sometimes All We Have Are Our Memories

Sometimes all we have are our memories…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Beauty fades.

People come and go.

Our children grow up, making their own way in life.

But we will always have our memories.

Memories of our childhood.

Memories of our family.

Memories of our experiences.

Memories of our journeys.

Today I had a chance to walk down memory lane. I had the opportunity to remember my grandparents. Oh, how I miss them. I think of them everyday. But without the photographs, I would not be able to remember their smiling faces or would I be able to share them with my children. They would have been just a thought from my memory.

But now they are once again reliving in my mind and through my children’s minds.
