Where was Jack, January thought.

She was starting to panic. He promised her they wouldn’t stay long, but as always, that promise had been broken.

As she walked for the front door, slowly the bathroom door opened. Jack stood there in the middle of a cloud of smoke, looking at January stunned, with a look of agitation on his face. His friend Bill sheepishly looked at January, before shifting his gaze down to his feet.

“What the hell, Jan? Why are you always sneaking up on me…stop suffocating me and stop being such a bitch!”

“A bitch? What are you talking about. I was just looking for you. You promised me that we would only have to stay for a few hours, to watch the rest of the game. The game is over and I want to go, besides you are wasted and doing God knows what in the bathroom.”

“Don’t worry about what I’m doing and stop being my mother. I thought I told you that…I don’t like you being my mother. Screw this! Bill and I are going to get more beer.” Jack snapped.

“What are you talking about Jack? I want to go…you promised!”

“Like I said Jan, Bill and I are going out to get more beer and then we will go.”

An anger rose up in January that she didn’t know she had. She had a enough. “Jack, I’m going home!”

Slamming the front door, she ran to her car, as tears streamed down her face.

How dare he treat her like that. She was sick of feeling like this. Jack was quickly dragging her down with him. She had to fight back.

“He’s right you know…I’ve never had a happy ending that lasted.”

“Come on Jan, it can’t be that bad.”

“Mimi, it is. I just feel so lost without Jack.” January said, biting down on her lip.

“I know you are sweetie. Have you visited him lately?”

“Not really. It’s so hard. He’s still really angry with me. I guess I deserve it.”

“Don’t be so hard on yourself. You don’t deserve any of this.”

“I’m not so sure about that. It is my fault Jack isn’t here right now.”

“Jan, it is definitely not your fault. Jack made his own choices. You didn’t force his hand into getting back into meth nor did you make him get onto his motorcycle, when he was totally high.” Mimi said, nursing the rest of her wine.

“Mimi, now you’re not being fair. If I wouldn’t have pushed him so hard and driven him to be so damn perfect, in only my sense of course, none of this would have happened!”

“Jan, you need to let it go. It will only destroy you.”

“I know, but I can’t.”

SNOW

Photo_Chair_061513 001

I sit in a trance like state, remembering the flashbacks from my life. Remembering how I took life for granted. Remembering how I thought I had all the time in the world. Not knowing, that I did not.

Remembering that one day…it had such a significant hold on me and a tight hold on who I become later in life.

My mother…holding the shiny, silver shears in her hand. I remember thinking, “She does not appear sane.”

“Mommy, what’s the matter…” I asked.

“You have been a very bad girl, very bad indeed. Did you not know that I would find out.. did you not…I’m speaking to you, January…”

“Mommy, I do not know what you are talking about.” I whimpered.

“But you do. Yes you do, January.”

“But Mommy, I do not.”

A fast and sharp burn spread across my face. I had been hit.

Suddenly, I blacked out; not remembering what happened next…as I sat on the cold, expensive marble floor, gathering my golden curls into a pile on the floor.

Silently, I glanced up, seeing my reflection in the bathroom mirror… “I’m hideous!” I cried.

“Bella are you packed…”

“Yes, Mama…Mama the phone is ringing.”

“Sweetie will you please grab it for me…I’m out on the porch.”

“Hello, Daddy. Why not… okay, I will go and get her.”

“Mama, it’s Daddy, he wants to talk to you.”

“Jack, when will you be home…Bella and I are ready and waiting for you. What do you mean you’re in Twin Pines…I thought you were at work and then coming home to pick us up…we are all supposed to go there together…as a mini vacation. Or did you forget!”

“Mama, don’t cry.”

“Hysterical…I’m not being hysterical. I can’t believe you went without us. How could you and what am I supposed to tell Bella, Jack!”

I looked over towards the doorway. All was silent now. My heart broke, as I watched my only daughter, as tears as big as crocodiles, spilled down her cheeks.

Keeping your Roots…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Life can derail us off our track of focus. When this happens, we must get back to our roots.

Roots can mean different things for different people. Losing one’s roots may stifle our creativity. It may suffocate our mind and spirit; drawing us into its madness.

Lost…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Yesterday he left again. Sadly to say, I allow him to come and go at his leisure. This isn’t my intention; however, it is the result of my lack of courage to go on without him.

I figured it takes me about four weeks to fully recover from his presence, or more like his absence. Subsequently, this does not last long, for he always comes back to disrupt my sense of normalcy.

Once again, I am left to clean up the fragments of my dysfunctional life.

A Walk to Barrow Hill:

The house appeared to be dark. Every shade in the house had been drawn. An uncomfortable chill crept up her leg, causing her to shutter.

She felt an eerie feeling encircling her as she called out.

“Mama, it’s Anna. Are you home?”

Silence filled the voided spaces of the empty rooms.

“Mama are you okay? Rose asked me to come over and check on you.”

Anna entered room after room, quietly shutting the doors behind her as she left.

The bathroom was the only room she hadn’t come to yet. Cautiously she peeked around the corner, slowly opening the door.

“Mama!” Anna didn’t recognize her own voice, as a ghostly scream escaped her before collapsing to the stone-cold tile floor.

A Sad Heart…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

Who ever thought being a mother would be so hard? I thought it was a rough day when I walked her to her Kindergarten classroom and now I’m saying goodbye at the airport as she goes back to college.

The tears never cease to amaze me, but with the tears comes an overwhelming sense of pride for who she has become and is continuing to become with each passing day.

As I wave goodbye until next time, I am proud of myself, for she wouldn’t be who she is today if it weren’t for me, her mother.

Sisters

Sisters…

Ms Mandi Photo 1

What is the meaning of a sister. A sister is someone you can talk to about anything. She is always there for you when you need her. She is a shoulder to cry on. She is a friend to laugh with on long rainy days. Distance can not keep you apart. Time stands still when you are together. She doesn’t judge you and you don’t judge her. You can fight like cats and dogs and still be the best of friends in the morning. You will grow old together.

There is nothing in the world that should keep sisters apart from each other; not distance, husbands, or hateful words. A sister is a best friend.

One of the best times I can remember with my sister, were times of moving. I went to her home in Reno, Nevada to help her pack. We didn’t do much packing on the first day. Something about my sister and I…we love to eat when we are together. So, we went to the store and bought a bunch of green grapes and sat in front of the television for most of the day watching Montel Williams…eating grapes. The funny part of the story is when her husband came home from work and expected that we would be pretty much finished packing. He caught us on our butts, as we turned around to look at him with a guilty look in our eyes. All we could do was crack up laughing as he asked what we were doing and we said we were packing.

Reach out to your sister and tell her you love her. I love you sis!

A Stranger

Falling in love is a great feeling.  Being in love means you are blessed.  When do they become a stranger?  It starts out with little things, like he/she stops kissing you when they leave the house, he/she stops saying “I love you” before bedtime, he/she stops looking at you with that sparkle in their eye.  Subtle changes.

If one of you stops trying, the distance grows more and more as time goes on.  He/she stops sleeping in your bed, he/she starts finding fault in everything you do, he/she stops loving you.

You now have a stranger in your heart.
